Steve will share New River Community and Technical College’s experience of using the HOW2 Platform to support faculty development, strengthen instructional practice and give educators practical teaching strategies they can apply directly with their students.

The session will explore the challenges colleges face when supporting faculty across different disciplines, experience levels and locations, and how providing an accessible, shared approach to pedagogy can help institutions build greater consistency in teaching practice.

Participants will hear directly from Steve about why New River chose HOW2, how the platform is being used within the college, and the role it can play in helping faculty develop their teaching without relying solely on traditional professional development sessions.

The discussion will also consider how colleges can:

Provide practical, evidence-based teaching support at scale Support both experienced faculty and instructors who may have limited formal training in pedagogy Encourage greater collaboration and sharing of effective practice between faculty Create a common language around effective teaching and learning Give faculty access to professional learning at the point they need it Build sustainable approaches to faculty development across an institution

This 45-minute session is designed for leaders from community and technical colleges across Virginia and West Virginia, including Presidents, Provosts, Academic Affairs leaders, Deans, Faculty Development teams, Teaching and Learning leaders and Workforce/CTE leaders.

The Problem: Students often feel trapped in resits; teachers need high-impact, fresh strategies. This summer only 15.3% of post-16 maths resits and 19.8% of English resits reached a grade 4. With 100 hours of face-to-face teaching now required in each subject, the question is what happens inside those hours.

Luke will be talking to Niki Goulden, a maths teacher at South and City College Birmingham, about what actually works in her resit classroom: winning back students who think they can't do it, what a strong resit lesson looks like and how to keep track of who's on course.

We'll also show how the HOW2 Platform helps teams share the techniques that make the difference.
