Make it sticky. Using evidence-informed teaching techniques as part of online learning with the HOW2 webapp

Every Individual HOW2 has a HOW IT HELPS tab. Within the tab, we have highlighted ways that EdTech and online learning can be used when using the technique.

The EdTech HOW IT HELPS tab is, in part, there to help you think about how you might use the HOW2 techniques as part of online learning. 

There are a lot of ways you can use the HOW2 app and its features to support your student’s learning and your peers in further developing what we might call your ​‘online teaching expertise’. Let me show you what I mean…

Scan the techniques, dip into the HOW IT HELPS tabs for ideas. As and when you come across a technique that you think worth considering, set the ​‘considering it’ tab for each technique. Why? First, so you can more easily come back to them — all the techniques you are considering will be hoovered up and available to you in the Skills Exchange. Second, so that you and your colleagues can see who is considering what and can contact each other to collaborate and share.

Once you have found a technique that you think would add value to your students online learning experience tell your colleagues so that they can support you and, if they do the same you can support them too. It takes less than half a second to select the ​‘working on it’ tab 

Use the notes feature to capture your ideas and reflections on how you plan to use and are adapting the technique to use online. Remember you can select colleagues to have a ​‘chat’ with online (notes are pushed and can be replied to by email).

Once you have embedded the technique into your (online) practice change the status to ​‘embedded’ so that your colleagues know who to send a note to ask for support. You can also publish the note so colleagues can learn and benefit from it in the future.
