The HOW2 Review: June, July & August 2026

Over the past few months, one thing has become increasingly clear. Whether we’re speaking with further education colleges, community colleges in the US, NHS educators, military trainers or workforce leaders, the same concerns about teacher development keep surfacing.

The settings may be different. The learners may be different. Yet those responsible for teaching, learning and professional development are grappling with the same challenges: how to make professional learning relevant to every educator, deliver that support at scale and close the gap between knowing what works and putting it into practice.

In our view, these conversations deserve a place where they can be brought together, revisited and reflected upon.

So, welcome to the first edition of The HOW2 Review—a round-up of the ideas and conversations shaping the HOW2 community.

It’s been a busy summer.

We welcomed new organisations, saw more than 90 accreditations awarded through the HOW2 Accreditation Framework, and continued to work alongside institutions across the UK and the US as they integrated HOW2 into their wider approaches to teaching, learning and professional development.

Luke Zwalf, Director of Community, Teaching and Learning, and Damian Rollinson-Small, Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships, have been at the heart of that activity — delivering training, hosting webinars and continuing to work directly with partner organisations beyond the initial rollout.

Across the UK

In the UK, that activity took Luke and Damian from college training rooms to national sector events. They delivered training at Kendal College, spoke at Dovetail & Slate’s TLA Impact Conference, attended FE Tech’s Training & Technology Summit and continued their work with partner colleges across the country.

Across the US

More than 50 institutional leaders joined Dr Mildred Coyne, CEO of Coyne Workforce Solutions, Dr Bob Paxton, Vice President of Education Solutions at American College of Education, and HOW2’s Damian Rollinson-Small for a webinar on the Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) funding opportunity and what it means for colleges preparing for Workforce Pell and the future of workforce education.

The discussion highlighted investment in faculty development as central to strengthening teaching quality across workforce education and showed how HOW2 helps colleges provide that support at scale as they respond to Workforce Pell’s completion and job-placement requirements.

Damian’s work in the US has taken him to partner organisations including Eastern Florida State College, New River Community and Technical College in West Virginia, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County in Florida — delivering training and working directly with teams in each setting. It’s been inspiring to see the HOW2 community continuing to grow in the US.

Accreditation Achievements

Since June, we’ve seen an impressive number of educators across the UK achieve formal Accreditation through the HOW2 Accreditation Framework, highlighting their dedication to excellent teaching and learning. Here are the numbers so far:

🏅 Lesley Wojnarowicz, Jessica Perkins, Tom Chambers, Clare Barker, James Keith and Dexter Davidson from Loughborough College

🏅 Alison Loughnane, Angie Simms, Becki Shaw, Corinne Jackson, and Charlie McNulty from Hopwood Hall College

⭐ And a special mention to the Hair and Beauty department at Wigan and Leigh College, where 90% of staff have achieved their Blue Accreditation, with Claire Owen, Curriculum Lead, working towards her Gold Accreditation.

Fantastic milestones for all, and a brilliant example of the professional expertise that exists across our community.

Dan Beale – Inclusion: The Golden Thread

In June, our webinar welcomed 76 educators for an engaging session exploring how the HOW2 Platform supports educators in meeting Ofsted’s new inclusion expectations.

Joined by Luke Zwalf, Dan Beale demonstrated how educators can use the HOW2 Platform to identify learners’ needs, remove barriers to learning and adapt evidence-informed teaching techniques using the Platform’s integrated AI support.

Clare Barnes shares Kendal College’s HOW2 journey

June’s HOW2 Leads Webinar featured guest speaker Clare Barnes, Teaching & Learning Lead at Kendal College, who shared the college’s experience as it approaches the end of its first year with the HOW2 Platform.

A great example of educators learning from educators — the heart of the HOW2 community.

North West Ambulance Service, one of the NHS’s largest ambulance trusts, joined the HOW2 community, giving educators and trainers across the Trust access to practical, on-demand professional development to support their work in healthcare education and training.

Inside Wigan & Leigh’s Teaching & Learning Academy

Congratulations to Wigan & Leigh College and University Centre following its successful Ofsted outcome for Initial Teacher Education (ITE).
